Livestock Waste Storage Open House

Iowa County Soil and Water Conservation District, in conjunction with the manufacturer, Accu-Steel Fabric Covered Buildings, and others, will host a livestock waste storage open house and field day on Thursday, September 15th, from 3:00 pm-6:30 pm at David Dermody’s farm, just 3.5 miles south of Williamsburg, Iowa. The event is free and open to the public and includes a complimentary meal prepared by the Iowa County Cattlemen’s Association.

David Dermody is leading by example on his Century Farm by containing the manure that was running off his feedlots and utilizing it as a source of nutrients for his crops. David and his son Travis have two hoop buildings that have the capacity of 350 head.  They have a cow/calf operation and utilize the buildings to finish the calves.  David and Travis will be hosting a walk-thru tour of the facility.  They will offer their experiences, the changes they’ve made, and the benefits of their hoop buildings.  David and Travis will be joined by Andy Smith from Accu-Steel, the manufacturer of the structure, to discuss the benefits of the facilities.
