Accu-Steel Steer Donation in Ames, IA

For the second consecutive year, Accu-Steel, Inc. has donated a steer that garnered top awards in the Iowa Cattlemen’s Association (ICA) Carcass Challenge — a statewide annual contest that rates beef on key consumer quality issues and producer profitability metrics.

The Accu-Steel steer, which came from the herd of Andy Smith of St. Anthony, Iowa, took home three of the six top awards out of the 68 steers submitted for the 2014 competition. The black steer produced 13.8 inches of ribeye and high-choice grading, which garnered the Carcass Merit award, top marbling score, and chef’s award. In total, Accu-Steel was presented with $1,250 in cash prizes.

“We’re proud to support an organization that provides leadership and education to such a vital part of the Iowa economy,” said Jason Owen, president at Accu-Steel, Inc., “and in an industry that is so closely aligned with Accu-Steel values.”

All proceeds raised from the sale of beef will go to ICA to help fund educational programming. Plans are already underway for the 2015 Carcass Challenge, with registration opening October 1. For more information, visit www.IACattlemen.org.
